Bancroft Press in the MediA
Both Book-of-the-Month Club and the History Book
Club have begun promoting purchase of "Live by the Sword:
The Secret War Against Castro and the Death of JFK."
Here is a brief selection of some of the superlatives
bestowed:
"Russo knows his subject and its nuances like few others
His relentless yet unprejudiced pursuit of the facts has impressed
colleagues such as Dan Rather, who calls him 'among the most
knowledgeable and respected critics' of the Warren Report
Live by the Sword is one of the best accounts of the killing
of JFK ever written, astonishing in what it claims, responsible
in what it disproves A stunning document, the definitive chronicle
of a critical episode in American history." -
Some stellar praise, too, from syndicated entertainment columnist
Liz Smith, herself a respected authority on matters related
to the Kennedy assassination. Here's what she said in her
national column January 18, 1999 about our November 1998 title
Live by the Sword: The Secret War Against Castro and the Death
of JFK.:
Showtime has optioned investigative reporter Gus Russo's mammoth
new book, "Live by the Sword: The Secret War Against
Castro and the Death of JFK." It will be made into a
two- to four-part miniseries. The book, from up-and-coming
publisher Bancroft Press [emphasis added], delves deeply and
convincingly into the events leading up to and following the
assassination of John F. Kennedy. Russo's work is a whydunit
rather than a whodunit. He believes Lee Harvey Oswald was
the lone shooter, but his motives and the ensuing cover-up
are what he really digs into. This subject is always fascinating,
and Russo's new information and new spin make for a good,
strong read [emphasis added].
A DEBATE CHALLENGE: Not a single reviewer, journalist, nor
academician has disputed the essential assertion of "Live
by the Sword" -- that Oswald did it, that he did it because
of a pro-Castro/pro-Cuba agenda, and that the U.S. powers-to-be
(including many of the current media powers in the U.S.) chose
for substantive reasons to let the public believe otherwise.
Bancroft Press and Gus Russo challenge anyone fitting the
above description to debate Russo in print or in person on
this critical conclusion from Live by the Sword. An intelligent
debate and discussion on this subject must be held. Actor
Richard Belzer, who in October 1998 had volunteered to debate
Russo, has, apparently, backed out. Belzer, of Homicide"
fame and a well-read skeptic/conspiracy proponent, was to
have debated Russo at the new Bibelot bookstore in downtown
Baltimore, with WJHU's Mark Steiner (NPR affiliate) serving
as moderator. Anybody else willing?
